Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris is an American politician. Born October 20, 1964, she was the 49th Vice President of the United States. Harris is the first female vice president and highest-ranking female official of U.S. History, as well the first African American and second Asian American vice president. A member of Democratic Party, she has been attorney general of California from 2011 until 2017 and was a United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris started her career in the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. She was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and then re-elected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Martinez in 2016's Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and first South Asian American senator to be elected to the United States Senate. As a senator , she supported health reform, federal descheduling for cannabis, a pathway for undocumented immigrants to become citizens and the DREAM Act and a ban on assault weapons. She also supported progressive tax reform. She was well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
